Teresa J. Dumire is a member of the Management Committee at Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC and serves as the managing attorney of the firm’s Morgantown office. She focuses her practice on civil litigation, with particular emphasis on construction litigation, trucking litigation, insurance defense, and the defense of personal injury and wrongful death claims.

Ms. Dumire is an active leader in the legal community. In 2017, she was honored as a West Virginia Bar Foundation Fellow and has spent several years serving on the West Virginia Bar Foundation’s Board of Directors and currently serves as the Immediate Past President. In 2022, she was invited to join the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (FDCC) and currently serves as a Vice Chair of the Construction Committee and as a member of the Transportation Committee. She is also a member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), a Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America, and serves on the Advisory Board of the Construction Lawyers Society of America (CLSA).
She previously served on the Board of Governors for Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia (DTCWV) from 2010 to 2022, holding every executive office, including President from 2020 to 2021 and continues to serve as the DTCWV liaison to the WVU College of Law.
Her commitment to legal education includes serving as an Adjunct Professor at WVU College of Law, where she taught Pre-Trial Litigation from 2006 to 2014, and served for a decade on the WVU College of Law Visiting Committee. She also taught Expert Witnessing in the WVU Department of Forensic Identification from 2000 to 2004.
Ms. Dumire earned her bachelor’s degree in philosophy and political science, summa cum laude, from West Virginia University in 1996, where she was recognized as an honors graduate and inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. She went on to obtain her Juris Doctor from the WVU College of Law in 1999. In 2010, she graduated from the prestigious Leadership West Virginia program, designed to cultivate and connect the state’s most promising leaders.
Before entering private practice, Ms. Dumire served as a Law Clerk for the Honorable Robert B. Stone and the Honorable Russell M. Clawges, Jr., in the Circuit Court of Monongalia County, West Virginia. She is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Southern Districts of West Virginia and the Supreme Court of Appeals for West Virginia.
Ms. Dumire’s commitment to her clients, coupled with her leadership in the legal profession, has solidified her reputation as a trusted advocate and formidable litigator in West Virginia’s legal community.
