CHARLESTON – Attorney Teresa J. Dumire concluded her term as President of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia following the organization’s Annual Business Meeting, which was held virtually from June 10 through June 11, 2021.

Ms. Dumire has served on the DTCWV Board of Governors since 2010 and has served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President, President, and now serves as the Immediate Past-President of the organization. DTCWV is an association of West Virginia attorneys who defend individuals and businesses in civil litigation for the purposes of elevating the standards of West Virginia trial practice; supporting and advocating for the improvement of the adversary system of jurisprudence; and increasing the quality of services rendered by the legal profession to the citizens of West Virginia.
At Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC, Ms. Dumire’s practice encompasses all areas of civil litigation with a concentration on construction litigation, insurance defense, and the defense of personal injury and wrongful death claims. She is admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the U.S. District Court for both the Southern and Northern Districts of West Virginia, as well as the Supreme Court of Appeals for West Virginia.
“It was both rewarding and challenging to have served as President of DTCWV during this most unusual year. We worked hard to continue providing important services to our members in our virtual and socially-distanced world. Of note, our Legislative Committee was very active in assisting both houses of the Legislature to understand the significant adverse impacts to the justice system and to our economy if West Virginia became only the fourth state in the nation to tax professional services. In addition to other initiatives, we adopted a Social Justice Statement and breathed new life into our Diversity Committee, which is actively planning several events. My Presidential year ended with a two-day virtual Annual Meeting which was filled with captivating, inspiring, and informative presentations by numerous judges and attorneys. Now, I am proud to join the ranks of all of those Past Presidents of DTCWV whom I greatly respect.” Ms. Dumire said.
