Luci Wellborn, a member of the firm, practices in the areas of civil defense litigation with a focus on construction law, products liability, and complex and commercial litigation.  Ms. Wellborn has more than 25 years of experience in handling and litigating insurance defense cases and claims, including coverage issues at both the trial and appellate levels. Prior to joining Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC, Ms. Wellborn served as an in-house attorney for USF&G and, following a merger, St. Paul Fire and Marine Insurance Company representing construction and commercial clients in litigated matters and providing day-to-day counsel to the Claim Department. Ms. Wellborn began her career at Steptoe & Johnson in Charleston, where she successfully litigated cases involving products liability, police liability, insurance defense, and personal injury defense.  Ms. Wellborn has also served as a lecturer for insurance claims personnel and agents on issues involved in the claim-handling process, including applicable West Virginia case law. In the 2022 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, Ms. Wellborn is recognized as “Lawyer of the Year” (Charleston) for her work in the area of Insurance Litigation.  And in the 2024 edition of The Best Lawyers in America, Ms. Wellborn is recognized as “Lawyer of the Year” for her work in the area of Construction Litigation.
