April 12, 2022 (Charleston, WV) — Shannon P. Smith, a member of Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC, has been elected Vice-President of the West Virginia State Bar (2022-2023 term). New officers were sworn in at the State Bar’s Annual Meeting and Banquet held in Charleston during the weekend of April 11th.
Prior to accepting the position of Vice-President, Smith wrapped up a four-year term on the Board of Governors for the WV State Bar. She has been actively involved in numerous roles with the Bar for a decade, beginning in 2012 with her election to the Young Lawyer Board, then with her election to and service as Secretary, Chair-Elect, Chair of the Young Lawyer Board, and finally, to the Board of Governors. At Kay Casto & Chaney PLLC, Smith’s practice is dedicated to the areas of insurance defense, energy and natural resources, commercial law, fraternal law, and general litigation. Smith’s litigation practice is focused on appeals, premises liability, wrongful death/personal injury defense, and representation of fraternal organizations. She also represents individuals in acquiring, leasing, and maintaining their interests in oil and natural gas in West Virginia. Smith regularly appears before all West Virginia courts and is licensed to practice in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Smith is an adjunct lecturer in Appellate Advocacy at the West Virginia University College of Law.
